Here's what we think
The Madison is brand new to this year, and it’s Sevylor’s 2022 answer to the 2012 Colorado model.
🛶 How does it paddle?
On the water the Madison feels as rigid as a solid kayak, performing incredibly well in the water, with impressive tracking, stability and robustness.
🏅 The best part
The same dimensions as the Colorado, the Madison is the perfect size to accommodating for two people, but also converts to a brilliantly nimble single-seater!
Nimble enough to glide through rivers, and robust and stable enough to tackle white water and rapids, the Madison it’s extremely difficult to flip over, and the raised bow and spray deck makes for good defence against any choppy waves that would otherwise leave you a little wet. Despite its tremendous rigidity and strength, the whole kayak rolls into a neat carry bag, which is more than manageable at just 15kg.
The kayak has handles in the middle, and at each end, so it’s even easier to carry by yourself if paddling alone. Paddles holders on each side mean that you can have some rest without bringing a wet paddle into the kayak. The underneath of the kayak is stronger still with a dual skin made by Decitex®, which is nylon woven through PVC - not only does this mean protection against sharp rocks, shingle beaches and even fishing hooks, it also provides a smooth, waterproof surface to travel over the water.
🐊 Armoured skin
The underneath of the Madison is protected by Decitex®, a patented skin formed from nylon that has been meticulously woven through multiple layers of PVC. The result is a smooth and slippery surface with low-drag. Thanks to this ‘iron-like’ skin, you can drag the Madison up shingle beaches, run aground over rocks, and graze against low-lying branches and roots. Water will bead off the Decitex® skin, keeping your kayak bone-dry for when you’re ready to pack up. Despite it’s incredible strength, the material is lightweight and couldn’t be easier to roll up.
💡 Some good ideas
This Kayak features an attachable skeg and directional strake, which gives it incredible directional stability, just like a hard kayak. The whole kayak rolls up smaller enough to fit into a suitcase, and is under the holidaying weight limit at 15kg! A great choice for the experienced or veteran kayaker wanting some performance, but equally great fun for beginners and families who want the adventure without the roof racks!
